A ballistic pendulum

Determine the maximum height the pendulum reaches to solve for the initial bullet velocity by using Conservation of Energy and Conservation of Momentum.

You can set the bullet and target mass using the sliders above. The length of the pendulum from its point of rotation to its center of mass with the bullet embedded in the target is 2 meters for this simulation. The acceleration due to gravity used by the simulation is g = 9.81 m/s^2.

Your simulation trial will have its own unique initial bullet velocity indicated by a letter and a number shown at the bottom the simulation panel. Enter this letter and number combination in your lab data to indicate the initial velocity specific to your own simulation trial. Each student will have a unique letter and number combination.
