PHYS208B Lab#8: Electric Field Lines and Electric Potential

Part 2: parallel line sources

In this portion of the lab you are testing the potential difference between various points on a resistive sheet between two line sources that have a voltage difference of 8V supplied to them.

First click the "ooo" along line to see that the potential difference between the terminal that is supplied +8V and the ground terminal is in fact 8V and the potential difference between the ground terminal and itself is in fact 0V, as expected.

Then, proceed to test all other "***" points across the entire surface. Your finger or mouse pointer acts as the positive lead and the negative lead remains connected to the ground terminal, so that the actual resulting potential difference is whatever number is displayed for each point you view.

Be sure to first download the Data Sheet in Canvas for the Two Line Sources before you begin as you will be using the results on this virtual lab demo to fill out the Data Sheet and answer the questions in your lab packet. Each of the points you check in this virtual lab are intended to be equal distance from each other in both directions to match the 1cm point spacing in the Data Sheet.
